History of Jharkhand Volleyball Association

In the year 2000, the Central Government created the state of Jharkhand by dividing the southern part of Bihar on November 15, the birthday of the hero Birsa Munda, and Jharkhand became the 28th state of India. After the establishment of the new state, the division of both the states was also very effective in the field of volleyball. On June 06, 2001, the first meeting for the formation of Jharkhand Volleyball Association was held at Sudha Hotel in Ranchi, the capital of the newly created state of Jharkhand, in which the then ADG Dr. Rameshwar Oraon was unanimously elected as the President and Mr. Shekhar Bose, International Coach, & Referee, was elected for the post of Secretary and Sanjay Kumar for the post of Treasurer.

After separation from Bihar, it was not easy to handle the legacy of volleyball. But the skillful direction of Shekhar Bose and the way volleyball workers cooperated with him from the time of Bihar state in handling this game is commendable. Some sports enthusiasts like Mrs. Kiran Thopkinson, Krishna Kumar Sonwar, Setank Sen, Nishikant Pathak,Uttam Raj with their hard work and efficiency, promoted volleyball in the entire state for four consecutive years. Starting from 18 districts, Jharkhand Volleyball Association is functioning in twenty four districts of the state.

After the year 2001, the Rajya Sabha member, and Jharkhand Olympic Association President, Shri Ram Kumar Anand was elected as the President in the 2005 election held at the Senator Hall of Ranchi University. The rest of the committee remained the same.

Organizing the National Games in the year 2009 was very challenging, so this committee got an opportunity to work again, and this committee organized a great volleyball game during the national games. In the year 2013 elections, some faces of the Sangh were changed and some new faces were given new responsibilities like associate secretary, event, team and coaching, Shri Setank Sen was entrusted with the post of Treasurer. In the year 2017 elections again, new treasurer Shri Sanjay Thakur was elected.
